What you should not do

Search engine optimization companies are continually trying to perfect the ever changing process of attaining the highest rankings in search engine results. As search engines continually change their algorithms to improve their search results, there exist ways that SEO companies can trick or mislead search engines into giving good rankings. Attempting to trick or mislead a search engine into giving better rankings can result in a website being blacklisted or banned from the search engine. As search engine results are such an essential component to successful ecommerce campaigns, the risks of being banned far outweigh the benefits that cheated rankings provide. We suggest that you avoid any company that optimizes your website using the ways in the following section.

Search engines consider the following things as spam:
  1. Inappropriate use of Meta tags: Do not use multiple instances of the same tags i.e. using more than one title tag. Do not use Meta refresh tags, or any keywords in your keywords meta tag that do not directly relate to the content of your webpage.
  2. Inappropriate use of keywords: Do not put lists of keywords anywhere except in your keywords Meta tag. Avoid excessive repetition of keywords. Do not use keywords in comment tags or in hidden value tags.
  3. Use of Invisible text: Increasing the density of keyword appearances on web pages by using text that is the same color as the background is considered invisible text and is banned in major search engines.
  4. Overuse of Tiny text: It is acceptable to use some tiny text on web pages, the excessive use of tiny text is especially to if it contains keywords is banned.
  5. Use of duplicate identical or nearly identical pages: Search engines do not like the use of these and may ban them.
  6. Inappropriate Submissions: Submitting pages to an inappropriate category (directories) or submitting the same page to any search engine too often i.e. more than once in a 24 hour period.
